Arizona's statute is short and specific: a tobacco vending machine belongs in a bar.
Arizona law allows tobacco products to be sold from a vending machine only in a bar, or in a closed employee lounge. The federal rule applies on top: nobody under 21 may be present or permitted to enter. A venue has to clear both before Afterwrk will propose anything.

What the Arizona statute says
Arizona law (A.R.S. § 36-798.02) allows tobacco products to be sold from a vending machine only in a bar, or in an employee lounge that is closed to the public in a business that employs no minors. The statute defines a bar by its liquor license series and as premises used primarily for alcohol rather than food. Read the statute →
- Location: a bar, or a non-public employee lounge in a business that employs no minors.
- Signage: a sign of at least eighty square inches on the front of the machine, in block letters, stating that purchase by anyone under 21 is illegal and may carry a fine of up to $300.
- Local rules: a county, city or town may restrict locations further or require different sign wording.
The statute’s definition of “tobacco products” lists cigarettes, cigarette papers, cigars, smokeless tobacco and smoking tobacco. How other nicotine products are treated is something we confirm with counsel for the specific product and address before proposing a placement.
What that means for venue types
In Arizona the state test is whether the premises is a bar as the statute defines it — not simply whether it is 21+. A nightclub or lounge may well be a bar in that sense; a restaurant with a bar area generally is not, and would also fail the federal under-21 test. Check your venue →
The heat is a placement constraint
The unit is rated to operate between 41 and 104°F. Any conditioned room clears that. A covered patio in summer does not, and neither does an entry vestibule that opens onto a parking lot, or a wall in direct afternoon sun through west-facing glass. Those positions are ruled out at the site review.
